The Black Maria Memorial Fund

Do you remember that feeling of being curled up on the sofa as a cheery, bejumpered Jackanory presenter sailed you off into the corners of your imagination on a sea of scrumptious rhymes? Well the magical combination of wordcraft and storysong conjured up by The Black Maria Memorial Fund takes you on just that kind of journey.

Lulled by the honeyed harmonies of the Fund’s current chairman Mr. Kieran Haynes and his right hand owl, Windom, it’s hard to resist their tall tales of love and despair. But there’s also danger and daring and death lurking in the shadows of their verse. So if you’re a soul in search of the unexpected and beautiful, try paying your respects to The Black Maria Memorial Fund.

Music made by Martin

Shoegaze, whingepop or just damn good music – no matter what you call it, Martin Coote’s music has been delighting the townspeople of Falmouth for a fine few years. He’s a firm fixture on the open mic scene, often to be found serenading the crowds at the Jacob’s Ladder or the Front with his melanjolly musings, and has recently started gigging in his own right. If you like Radiohead, The Smiths, Andrew Bird, Bat for Lashes and Sebastien Tellier you’ll get on great with Martin and his music.

Listen to Martin’s SCD EP at last.fm and follow his musical meanderings on facebook.
