Birthday treats

My friend Sally invited us  all round to hers for a barbecue to celebrate her birthday recently and I was a bit stumped for a present. She’s expecting a baby at the end of August so I could’ve got her something baby-related, but decided to make something just for her instead because she’ll be getting loads of gifts for the baby soon enough! Sally likes to wear long bead necklaces so I whipped up something using my stash of beads I’ve had since I used to make much more jewellery back in my students days. It took me a few goes to settle on a design, but I’m really pleased with the result.

I also made a yummy carrot cake to take along and displayed it in my lovely glass cake dome which Sally and the other Falmouth girls had bought as my special birthday treat in May.
